Mobile Classroom & Command Trailer

Mobile Classroom • Command • Studio

One trailer. Training room, command post, and recording studio.

The Disaster Response Services Mobile Classroom & Command Trailer is a 20-foot, fully equipped
learning and operations platform. It can roll into a school parking lot for youth preparedness,
support an incident as a command post, or switch into studio mode to produce training media and
animated content like Paws for Life.

Designed to be inclusive, smoke-protected, and self-contained, this trailer is the face of many
DRS programs — from CERT outreach and TECC training to podcast recording and VR/AR development.

A classroom, command space, and studio in one.

The DRS Mobile Classroom & Command Trailer is built to transform quickly between roles.
Rather than designing it for a single purpose, every choice was made with flexibility and
human comfort in mind.

Inside, the space can host small-group training, tabletop exercises, TECC scenarios, CERT
planning sessions, or quiet interviewing and podcast recording. The same space can then
be reconfigured to support incident command, planning, or logistics during emergencies.

As DRS capacity grows, the trailer will support youth media, animation workflows,
and VR/AR training modules that help people visualize what preparedness and response
actually look like in their own communities.

Three primary operating modes

The same trailer can serve very different roles, depending on what a community or agency needs.
These modes can be combined or adjusted as needed.

Level 1 — Training Mode

The primary classroom configuration used for training small groups in a protected environment.

  • Seating and tables for students
  • Monitors and AV for slides and media
  • Whiteboards and training props
  • CERT, family preparedness, and youth programs
  • Hands-on skills with AV and visual support

Level 2 — Command & Support

In emergencies, the trailer can support incident command, shelter operations, or rehab
and coordination functions alongside local agencies.

  • Incident command staff workstations
  • Planning, logistics, and communication support
  • Mapboards, situation status displays, and checklists
  • Space for meeting with partners and community leaders

Level 3 — Studio & Media

A quiet, controllable recording space for The Command Post podcast, youth media,
and training content like Paws for Life.

  • Podcast and voiceover recording
  • Video segments and explainer content
  • Future VR/AR and simulation support
  • Collaboration with local schools and youth groups

Built with air quality and accessibility in mind.

Many community members — including kids, elders, and responders — are sensitive to smoke,
chemicals, and environmental triggers. The trailer is designed to be a cleaner, quieter space
where people can focus and breathe more easily.

  • Insulated to buffer noise and weather
  • Air filtration and scrubber capability
  • Lighting chosen to reduce eye strain
  • Interior layouts that respect mobility needs

As resources allow, DRS plans to further improve filtration, power options, and accessibility
features so the trailer can serve even more community members safely.

How agencies and communities can use the trailer

The Mobile Classroom & Command Trailer is intended to support, not replace, local systems.
It can be invited in by agencies, schools, tribes, or community organizations.

  • Host small-group training or exercises on-site
  • Provide a cleaner, calmer space during smoky events
  • Support CERT activities and outreach days
  • Offer a mobile studio for media and storytelling projects
  • Assist with planning, logistics, and coordination

Costs & scheduling

Availability, cost-recovery, and sponsorship options will depend on distance, duration,
and the type of event. DRS works with partners to make use of the trailer as accessible
as possible.

If cost is a concern, please reach out anyway. Together, we may be able to identify grants,
sponsorships, or other support.

Bring the Mobile Classroom to your community.

Whether you’re a fire agency, school, tribal community, neighborhood group, or event organizer,
the DRS trailer can be scheduled for training, outreach, or support.
